We are very lucky where we live to have part of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal right on our doorstep as it winds it’s way through the borough.

Completed in 1816 after 46 years of work, the canal stretches 128 miles from Leeds where it carried woollen goods from the mills through to towns along the route to Liverpool. In the opposite direction went barge loads of coal from the Lancashire coal fields.

This photo was taken last week while walking along the canal towpath. This was more than just a recreational walk as a friend and I are due to walk the entire length from Leeds to Liverpool for charity over a period of 4 days in May this year.
